Hiking/Walking

Trail to Lookout & Fogharty’s Lake – This trail can be accessed right from the cabin!  Walk up to the top of the driveway hill and turn left.  The trail will take you past an abandoned homestead and up to a beautiful lookout of Chedabucto Bay.  If you keep walking on this trail past the lookout it will open up into a barrens (full of purple pitcher plants, moss & shrubs)  It’s quite wet/boggy but if you are able to keep walking to the right you will see the lake.

Shore walks from the cabin – You can walk along the shore to the right at low tide to a small waterfall.  After that, the shore is too steep to walk along.

If you walk along the shore to the left you can go a long ways.  You can walk to Half Island Cove Beach which is a sandy beach.  You can also drive to this beach.

Chapel Gully Trail –  Wilmot St, Canso - A nice, well maintained trail in Canso (15 min drive).  Takes you along the shore as well as through woodlands with lots of boardwalks, bridges and a lookout.  There is a shorter loop and a longer loop.  Longer one is 10 km.   Dogs need to be on leash.

Cole Harbour Road (Multi Use Trail) – Located in Queensport (10 min drive) with parking just off the road – you will see a sign for the trail.  Although it’s a multi use trail there is very rarely any ATVers on it.  Starts of through nice forest and crosses a beautiful creek.  Eventually starts to climb and leads to a Protected Wilderness Barrens.  A stunning barrens that you can walk around and explore.  Amazing views and full of berries in the summertime.

Black Duck Cove Day Use Park – Located in Little Dover – (20 min drive)  A nice provincial park with well maintained trails that take you along the shore and through woods.  Lots of picnic tables, a nice beach and rocky shore to explore.  Dogs should be leashed.
